THE REALM OF VICTORIA Concerns itself not only with the political and personal life of the Sovereign , but—and more especiallywith the social and scientific progress made during the last fifty years throughout our widely-scattered I possessions , giving great prominence to Colonial matters , and treating with much fulness the eiploration and opening up of the Australian Continent . All the great movements for the people ' s welfare receive attention ; inventions and engineering triumphs , scientific discoveries , and literary landmarks are noticed in their turn ; and the result is a concise but readable and comprehensive record of the deeds of our countrymen during the time the Queen has filled the throne . The Illustrations , ninety in number , in colours and black and white , portray the great state pageants of the reign , ! and include views of the capitals of our dependencies in all parts of the world from Canada eastwards to Fiji .
